WD warns customers not to use their 3TB hard-drives

Western Digital has issued a warning to users of their media players - they should not connect any 3TB USB drives to the devices, or they will likely suffer data loss/corruption.

This warning does not just apply to third party hard-drives, it also applies to Western Digital's own Mybook 3TB external drive. It seems it did not occur to WD test their 3TB drive with their own media players before launching.

Users of the WDTV Live, WDTV Live Plus and WDTV Live Hub will have to wait for a firmware upgrade to their media player and/or HDD before being able to safely use them together. Owners of the original WDTV and WDTV Gen2 will not receive any assistance, as Western Digital decided to stop supporting these devices a long time ago.

  1. Just purchased a WD Live TV Hub, and a WD 3TB Drive, same problem, it will not recognise drives over 2TB

I wonder if it is possible to partition the portable drive so that it will be recognised?

Still love the live hub though :)
